MEDIA & OPPORTUNITIES

I've spent most of my life talking about wildlife — whether that's to a room full of volunteer rescuers, a television camera or someone who's just found an injured animal and has no idea what to do next.

With The Animal Sanctuary, that conversation is about to get a whole lot bigger.

I'm always happy to help tell stories that get people thinking about wildlife, conservation, Tasmania and the world we share with animals.

The Animal Sanctuary is currently in production, and takes viewers behind the scenes at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and into our lives at home, following the rescues, releases, heartbreaks, chaos and incredible people involved in caring for Tasmania's wildlife.

The eight-part series gives viewers access to a world that normally happens well away from the public eye — from animals arriving through the wildlife hospital doors to the ultimate goal of getting them healthy and back where they belong.

The scale and team behind the series is significant. It is being produced by Spectral Media, Walking Fish Productions, Orange Entertainment Co., Campfire Studios and Copper Pot Pictures, with international distribution being handled by Rainmaker Content.

There is considerable experience behind those companies. US-based Campfire Studios is a two-time Emmy Award-winning production company with more than 80 series and feature films to its name, including Netflix's The Menendez Brothers, Poisoned: The Dirty Truth About Your Food, Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators, and the acclaimed WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn.

Copper Pot Pictures created The Zoo, the successful Animal Planet series filmed inside the Bronx Zoo, which went on to run for multiple seasons and spawn The Zoo: San Diego and The Aquarium. That experience in particular has been invaluable for a series like ours.

On the Australian side, Orange Entertainment Co. has credits including Retrograde for the ABC, Lindy Chamberlain: The True Story for Network 10, Missing Persons Investigation for Nine and White Fever for the ABC.

There is also a significant international ambition for the series. Rainmaker Content holds the international distribution rights, and the hope is that the program will introduce Bonorong, Tasmania's extraordinary wildlife and our conservation work to audiences well beyond Australia.

ABC News recently visited Bonorong and covered the series and the story behind it:
